How to Avoid Freckles

Freckles are light brown spots that occur in clusters and affect the face and the rest of the body. Melanin pigment forms flat, harmless, and painless spots. Interestingly, freckles are not something you will have by birth. Even if your family has a freckle history, you will need sun exposure to trigger their occurrence. If you have been finding a way to get rid of the freckles, here are a few ways.

Use a Sunscreen

If you already have freckles, sunscreen cannot make them disappear, but it can help in reducing the chances of the new ones showing up. Use an SPF 30 or above sunscreen should be applied on the skin, 15 minutes before going out in the sun.

Go for Laser Treatment

Laser treatments are also becoming a standard treatment method for treating freckles. Research has shown that laser treatment can reduce 50% of the fractal pigmentation on the skin. Even though the treatment is safe, some people still face side effects such as itching, swelling, redness, and peeling.

Cryosurgery

Cryosurgery is another treatment method that can reduce freckles. It makes use of the liquid nitrogen that is extremely cold and used for the destruction of abnormal skin cells. The return method is safe and requires very little recovery time. Some side effects associated with cryosurgery are blistering, bleeding, and hypopigmentation.

Fading Creams

Bracing or fading creams contain hydroquinone that is a useful compound used to reduce melanin production, so it can also help in lightening the tanned freckles. However, if you have sensitive skin, hydroquinone can cause blistering, burning, and inflammation.

Retinoid Cream

Retinoid cream contains vitamin A, a great anti-inflammatory agent that can improve the skin that has been damaged by the sun or suffering from hyperpigmentation. Vitamin A creams can also help in preventing the new freckles. However, if you have sensitive skin, make sure to ask your doctor because retinoid creams can cause peeling, irritation, and dryness.

Natural Remedies to Reduce Freckles

Even though there is no research-based evidence about this natural treatment to be useful for the freckles, people still claim them to be enormously helpful.

Honey

Make a Scrub using honey with salt or sugar and apply it directly to the skin to lighten the pigmentation.

Lemon Juice

Use some cotton to apply lemon juice to the freckles thoroughly and rinse it off with lukewarm water.

Yogurt

You can apply thick yogurt directly on the skin and leave it there for a few minutes. Yogurt encompasses lactic acid that can aid in reducing the melanin content of the skin.

Onions

Split an onion into two halves and use one of them to scour on your skin. Onions are excellent exfoliators, and they can also lighten up the freckles spots.

These therapies should be applied at least two times a week to see the results in a few months. These natural compounds greatly benefit the skin even if they cannot reduce the freckles they will give you a fresh and healthy skin.
