Home Remedies for Oily Skin

Overproduction of sebum by the sebaceous glands results in oily skin prone to several skin health problems.  Even though sebum is not harmful, but it’s overproduction can cause acne and clogged pores.  Oily skin is difficult to manage as most therapeutic descriptions given for the problem do not work well.  However, your kitchen and pantry contain some magical ingredients that can help control the oil produced by the skin.

Here are a few tips for managing oily skin:

Wash your face often

If you have oily skin, it would be best if you wash your face twice a day.  But make sure to avoid Harsh or strong detergents and soaps because they can harm the skin.  Use glycerin soaps to wash your face and wipe off the oil gently.

Honey

The antibacterial and antiseptic properties of honey treat oily skin, which is also prone to acne.  Use raw honey and spread it on your face in the form of a thin layer and dry for a few minutes.  Now, rinse set off with lukewarm water.  It will not only remove the excess oil but give your skin a glowing look.

Oatmeal

Oatmeal is a perfect remedy for inflamed skin as it can absorb excess oil and exfoliate the dead skin.  You can buy oatmeal facial masks or make one at home. Make a mixture of honey and oatmeal in hot water and apply it to your face for a few minutes. You can also use the combination to massage your face for clear skin.

Egg whites

Egg whites are a potential remedy for oily skin. If it is used with lemon, it can significantly reduce the pore size.  The antibacterial properties of lemon can reduce the bacterial build up in the pores and reduce inflammation. Use a freshly squeezed lemon and mix it up with an egg white. Apply it on the face and let it dry. Rinse it off with warm water.

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is an exceptional natural therapy for soothing inflamed skin. Studies show that it can also help with oily patches that are prone to infection. Take Aloe Vera gel and apply it on your face in the form of a thin layer at bedtime. Wash your face in the morning, and the gel works on your skin overnight.

Tomatoes

Tomatoes are enriched with salicylic acid, which can engross the additional oil and reduce clogged pores.  Make tomato paste with one teaspoon of sugar and apply on your skin for a few minutes.  Massage in a circular motion and then rinse it off with warm water.  You can also use a few tomato slices, rub it on your skin, and wash it off.

Almonds

Almonds are a perfect ingredient to exfoliate your skin.  Grind a few raw Almonds and add raw honey to it.  Apply the paste on your skin and massage in a circular motion.  Make sure to gently use your hands so that the small grains of almonds do not irritate your skin.
